Mr. Uday Raj R is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Fashion & Lifestyle Accessories and serves as the Student Development Activity Coordinator (SDAC) at NIFT Chennai. He specializes in Fine Art and has 12 years of academic experience. His passion for art and design led him to join NIFT Chennai in 2018 after gaining professional experience in the art industry. His expertise includes art and fashion illustration, design development, product sketching, craft workshops, material understanding, ergonomics, digital art, photography, and creative visualization. He is committed to fostering creativity, innovation, and design thinking through experiential and interdisciplinary learning.

His research interests include art, craft, material exploration, ergonomics, design innovation, and craft-based e-commerce. He has published research articles on art and craft e-commerce in national and international journals. His academic work emphasizes integrating traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design practices while encouraging sustainable, user-centered, and socially relevant design solutions. He actively guides students in research, prototyping, and creative problem-solving.

Beyond academics, Mr. Uday Raj R mentors students and promotes holistic student development through his role as Student Development Activity Coordinator. He enjoys photography, digital art, and creative exploration. He actively participates in academic, cultural, and community initiatives, inspiring students to pursue artistic excellence, professional integrity, innovation, and lifelong learning.
