Prof. Dr. P. Mohanraj is a Professor and Chairperson of Knitwear Design at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT). He has extensive professional and academic experience in textile and apparel education, industry, research, and academic administration. His core expertise includes knitwear design and technology, circular and flat knitting, apparel product development, fashion merchandising, sustainability, and innovative textile applications. He contributes to curriculum development, faculty development, student mentoring, and academic leadership across the Knitwear Design discipline pan India.

His research interests focus on sustainable textiles, smart textiles, innovative knit structures, wearable technology, and technology-enabled fashion education. He has published and presented research on sustainability, smart textiles for healthcare and wearable technology, and innovative textile applications. His academic contributions also include curriculum development, industry-oriented projects, faculty training, and knowledge dissemination in emerging technologies such as computerized knitting and digital knitwear.

Prof. Dr. P. Mohanraj is also the Chairman of the textile division board of the institution of engineers India (IEI) and council member of IEI, Patron member of Textile association of India (TAI), Patron member of North India Section of Textile Institute (NISTI) and member of Indian society for technical education (ISTE). He actively promotes industry–academia collaboration and professional development through training programs, seminars, workshops, and expert interactions. He mentors students and faculty members and contributes to professional and academic forums, including the Institution of Engineers (India). His professional interests include sustainable fashion, textile innovation, emerging technologies, and skill development. He also supports outreach activities that connect academic knowledge with industry practices and societal needs, with a strong emphasis on continuous learning and professional excellence.
