Md Abul Ala is an Assistant Professor in the Textile Design Department at NIFT Bhubaneswar, with over a decade of academic and industry experience in textile and apparel education. He holds a B.Tech in Textile Technology from Serampore Textile College(GCETTS) under West Bengal University of Technology, Kolkata, and an M.FTech in Apparel Production from NIFT Bengaluru. He specializes in textile chemical processing, textile surface modification, weave design, natural dyes, and sustainable fashion.

His research interests focus on sustainable textile materials, functional textile finishes and nanotechnology based applications. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Polymer Science and Technology at the University of Calcutta, with research focused on nano textile finishes and sustainable textile and fashion applications. He researches antimicrobial textile finishes and functional textile surfaces using plant based materials and nanotechnology. He also participates in academic training, industry engagement, and professional development.

He mentors students in textile design, processing, craft research, and project development. He contributes to academic events, professional training, industry engagement, and jury activities. He is also a member of the project for designing uniforms for Principals, Teachers, and Staff of the Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya Sangathan. His professional interests include sustainable design, traditional textiles, innovation, and interdisciplinary approaches.
