Assistant Professor, Fashion Communication (BDes)
Bhubaneswar CampusBornali Das is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Fashion Communication at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT). She is a design educator, researcher, and branding strategist with over 12 years of professional and academic experience in branding, communication design, product design, packaging, and visual storytelling. Her expertise spans brand identity systems, design strategy, semiotics, user-centred design, and experiential communication. Prior to joining academia, she led creative and branding initiatives in the precious metals industry, developing award-winning products, packaging, and integrated brand campaigns. She teaches courses in branding, visual communication, creative thinking, storytelling, retail and brand experience, packaging design, exhibition design, and creative direction, while mentoring students through interdisciplinary and industry-engaged learning.
Her research focuses on branding, communication design, semiotics, inclusive design, multisensory brand experiences, and design thinking. She is currently pursuing a PhD at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, where she investigates inclusive branding frameworks for visually impaired users through sensory semiotics and accessible design systems. Her scholarly interests include cultural narratives in branding and sustainable communication design. She has conducted research with artisan communities, presented her work at national and international forums, and continues to foster collaborations between academia, industry, and communities. She is committed to advancing socially responsible, culturally rooted, and inclusive design education that prepares future designers to create meaningful societal and industry impact.
