Dr Ujjwal Ankur is Campus Coordinator of Leather Design at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), New Delhi. An artist, art historian and educator, he specialises in Art History, Visual Arts, Craft, Art Appreciation, Cultural Documentation and Art and Design practices. With more than 15 solo and group exhibitions as an artist, he brings an interdisciplinary approach to art, craft, design, and education. He is an alumnus of Jamia Millia Islamia and the National Museum Institute, now known as the Indian Institute of Heritage.

His research interests focus on Indian regional art traditions, particularly the documentation, interpretation, preservation, and revival of lesser-known and languishing visual traditions. He has dedicated extensive research to the rediscovery and revival of Vajjika Painting of North Bihar, including the study of its visual language and illustrated Ramcharitmanas manuscripts. His work includes an ICSSR-funded research project, artist training, field documentation, exhibitions, academic presentations, and cultural dissemination. Through these efforts, he contributes to bringing Vajjika Painting into wider academic, artistic, and public discourse.

Dr Ujjwal Ankur actively engages in art practices, art and craft outreach, artist mentoring, exhibitions, workshops, cultural awareness initiatives and writing. He works closely with traditional artists and communities to create opportunities for knowledge transmission, contemporary practice, and livelihood generation. His broader professional interests include art education, curatorial practices, cultural entrepreneurship, and connecting traditional art practices with contemporary design and educational platforms.
