Ms. Alka Rawat is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Fashion Communication at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Kangra, and serves as Course Coordinator for Fashion Communication. She specialises in communication, media studies, journalism, visual culture, storytelling, branding, and strategic communication. She brings over 15 years of professional and academic experience across media, communication design and strategy, branding, and higher education. Her teaching integrates communication theory with design practice and contemporary media.
Her research interests lie at the intersection of communication, digital media, design, mediated communication, and behavioural change. Her ongoing doctoral research engages with communication frameworks and their application in marginalised communities. She has developed MOOC audio-visual modules for IGNOU and has published research papers and book chapters. Her broader academic interests include visual communication, digital storytelling, media representation, communication for social change, and interdisciplinary approaches to communication and design.
At NIFT Kangra, she contributes to curriculum development, academic coordination, student mentoring, industry engagement, and departmental initiatives. She teaches and researches across fashion communication, media and journalism, visual culture, digital media, print communication, branding, and design innovation. Her pedagogical interests include critical thinking, visual literacy, strategic communication, cultrural narrative, and emerging media in design education.
