Dr. Babita Bhandari is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Textile Design and serves as the Centre Coordinator for the Foundation Programme at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Kangra, Himachal Pradesh. She is engaged in teaching undergraduate courses in Textile Design, Fashion Design, and the Foundation Programme, with specialization in Traditional Indian Handlooms and Textile Crafts, World Textiles, Surface Design, Sustainable and Artisanal Fashion and Textiles, and Craft-Based Design Interventions.
Dr. Bhandari completed her postgraduate degree in Textile and Apparel Designing from Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar, where she was awarded the Saroj Kashyap Gold Medal for Best Thesis. She earned her Ph.D. in Clothing and Textiles from Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology (GBPUA&T), Pantnagar, Uttarakhand. She qualified for the ICAR-Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in 2012 with an All India Rank III and the UGC-NET-JRF in 2013. Her research focuses on sustainable textile and fashion design, conscious consumption, natural dyeing, circular design practices, and socially inclusive innovation. Her scholarly work explores indigenous textile knowledge systems, cultural heritage preservation, adaptive clothing, and eco-friendly textile processing to develop sustainable and resilient fashion solutions.
Dr. Bhandari has made significant academic contributions through expert lectures, peer-reviewed journal articles, international conference presentations, book chapters etc. Her recent research contributions include studies on sustainability narratives among textile design students, conscious fashion practices, and emerging approaches in sustainable textile design.
