Ranitha Ramesh is an Assistant Professor in the Fashion Communication department at NIFT Kannur, where she teaches and conducts research in fashion styling, trend spotting and forecasting, craft, fashion culture, and costume studies. She joined NIFT in 2018 and is an alumna of the NIFT Kannur campus. She holds a Master’s in Design from NIFT, Kannur, and a B.Sc. in Fashion and Apparel Design from Acharya Institute of Graduate Studies, Bangalore University. Her professional experience includes bridalwear design, styling, and academic teaching.

Her research interests focus on craft research and documentation, craft-based product development, fashion culture and costumes, and the history of Indian traditional textiles and costumes. She also explores product styling, fashion trends, and design development through interdisciplinary approaches that connect traditional craft practices with contemporary fashion. She received the Best Design Innovation Award for her graduation project, recognizing her creative approach to design and innovation. Her teaching and research integrate design basics, styling, trend analysis, and cultural studies.

Beyond teaching and research, Ranitha Ramesh engages with craft and cultural practices as important sources of creative learning and design exploration. She is interested in documenting traditional crafts and costumes and encouraging their relevance in contemporary fashion. Through her academic work, she mentors students in developing research-driven and culturally informed design outcomes, fostering an appreciation for India’s diverse textile and costume heritage.
