Dr. Afrose Fathima Farid is a Professor in the Department of Textile Design and Campus Academic Coordinator at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Kannur. She specializes in textile design, fashion education, sustainable textiles, textile technology, and design innovation, with over two decades of academic and professional experience. She holds a Ph.D. in Textiles and Clothing from the University of Madras, along with an M.Phil. and M.Sc. in the same discipline.

Her research interests focus on sustainable textile innovation, natural fibres and dyes, traditional textiles and crafts, circular fashion, wearable technology, artificial intelligence in fashion, and socially responsive design. She has published research in peer-reviewed and indexed journals and has presented papers at national and international conferences. Her recent work explores AI-powered virtual try-on technologies, sustainable plant-based fibres, natural dyeing, Kasaragod saree innovation, and traditional craft revitalisation. She also mentors students through industry-linked professional projects and serves as a registered research guide at NIFT.

Dr. Farid actively contributes to academic development, curriculum design, research mentoring, and industry-academia collaboration. She serves on Boards of Studies and curriculum development panels across several institutions and has reviewed research for international conferences. Her outreach activities include skill-development workshops for rural women, menstrual hygiene awareness, sustainable textile initiatives, and community-based design projects.
