Shangrella MK Rajesh is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Fashion Design at NIFT Kannur, where she has been serving since 2021. With over two decades of experience in fashion education, design consultancy, and academic administration, she specializes in pattern making, garment construction, draping, heritage couture, bespoke menswear, performance clothing, material studies, and sustainable fashion. She is currently pursuing a PhD at Bharathiar University, is UGC NET qualified, and has completed sustainability training at STF Switzerland, strengthening her expertise in sustainable fashion and textile practices.
Her research focuses on sustainable textiles, natural dyes, antimicrobial finishes, and zero-waste garment development. Her doctoral research explores the extraction and application of natural dyes from selected medicinal plants on handloom cotton and linen for sustainable textile products. She has published several research papers in the areas of fashion and textiles and has presented her research at national and international conferences. She has also contributed to consultancy assignments and government-funded projects that promote sustainable design and innovation.
Beyond teaching and research, she actively mentors students, contributes to curriculum development, and supports institutional administration. She has collaborated with academic institutions, government agencies, industry, and NGOs, including NIFT-TEA Knitwear Fashion Design Institute, the University of Calicut, Kudumbashree, KITCO, and Malayala Manorama, promoting industry–academia collaboration and community engagement.
