Dr. Rupayan Roy is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Fashion Technology at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Kannur, Kerala, where he teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Fabric Science, Technical Textiles, Yarn Manufacturing, Research Methodology, and Industrial Engineering. He holds a Ph.D. in Textile Engineering from IIT Delhi, where he also earned his M.Tech, and completed his B.Tech in Jute and Fibre Technology from the University of Calcutta. His expertise spans polymer composites, needle-punched nonwoven engineering, fibrous filter media design, protective textiles, and smart functional materials.

Dr. Roy's research focuses on fibre-reinforced composites, soft body armour, and filtration systems engineered through nonwoven structural design. He has authored 20 peer-reviewed journal articles, including several in high-impact venues such as Polymer Composites and Composites Part B, alongside 28 book chapters published by Elsevier, Wiley, Springer, and IGI Global, and seven international conference papers. He was offered a postdoctoral position at the Institute of Nano Materials, Technical University of Liberec, Czech Republic, and received international travel awards from DST and IIT Delhi to present at conferences in Belgium, Thailand, and the UK.

Beyond research, Dr. Roy mentors student dissertations and has independently developed two new courses, Technical Textiles and Automation in Apparel Industry. He is a member of the Institute of Engineers (India) and the Textile Association of India, and remains an active alumnus of IIT Delhi and the University of Calcutta.
