Manuprasad Mathew is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Fashion Design at NIFT Kannur, with over a decade of teaching experience and prior industry background as a designer for brands including Nuon, Westport, Tokyo Talkies, and Noi. He holds a Master's in Design degree in Apparel Design and Merchandising from the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, and a B.Sc. in Fashion Design from Mangalore University. He specializes in fashion graphics, concept development, trend forecasting, and functional clothing design, and has led institutional projects such as the ECO cadet uniform for the Government of Kerala, the SANSAD uniform project for the Government of India, and the convocation ceremonial attire for IIT Palakkad.
His primary research interest lies in integrating artificial intelligence into design practice and education, with a particular focus on AI-assisted design processes and the emerging role of AI agents in shaping the future of the fashion industry and design pedagogy. He organised NIFT Kannur's first national conference on AI in fashion, "SAIF '19," and presented a paper on AI in fashion systems at the Functional Textiles and Clothing Conference, IIT Delhi (2025). Earlier in his career, his fusion-wear collection "Kanchi Hues" was selected for the Wills Lifestyle Debut Show (2010) and later showcased at the "Italian Design Dot" exhibition in Milan.
Outside academia, he pursues AI-driven digital content creation, photography, travel, and sketching and painting — drawing inspiration from conversations with people across cultures.
