Dr. Mukthy S is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Fashion Management Studies at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Kannur. With over seventeen years of combined academic and industry experience, she brings a multidisciplinary perspective to fashion management, entrepreneurship, sustainability, and luxury business. Prior to joining academia, she gained valuable corporate experience with Gap Inc., enriching her teaching with practical industry insights. She teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses in entrepreneurship, consumer behaviour, luxury management, sustainable business, and fashion marketing, and actively contributes to curriculum development, industry engagement, and institutional initiatives.
Dr. Mukthy's research focuses on entrepreneurship development, social entrepreneurship, sustainable and circular fashion, craft cluster development, women's economic empowerment, digital fashion marketing, consumer behaviour, and responsible consumption. She received her Ph.D. in Management from Bharathiar University, where her doctoral research examined the determinants of entrepreneurial behaviour among Kudumbashree women entrepreneurs in Kerala. Her scholarly work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at national and international conferences. She actively collaborates with government agencies, artisan communities, and industry partners on projects related to handloom revival, craft sustainability, livelihood enhancement, and skill development. As the Cluster Initiative Coordinator at NIFT Kannur, she has successfully led several design intervention, product development, and capacity-building programmes that strengthen traditional craft ecosystems while promoting innovation and sustainable entrepreneurship.
Beyond her academic responsibilities, Dr. Mukthy is deeply committed to mentoring students and nurturing future entrepreneurs through experiential learning, community-based projects, and industry collaborations. She actively engages in outreach programmes with self-help groups, artisan clusters, and rural communities to foster inclusive development and preserve India's rich textile and craft heritage. Her professional interests include sustainable innovation, indigenous knowledge systems, women-led enterprises, and the integration of technology with traditional crafts. Through her teaching, research, and extension activities, she continues to advance socially responsible fashion education and contribute to the development of a more sustainable and inclusive fashion ecosystem.
