Dr. Georgy Sunny is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Fashion Design at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Kannur. He specializes in luxury fashion, couture womenswear and menswear, trend forecasting, design processes, and craft-based product development. He received his PhD in Design and Development of Contemporary Products Using Areca Nut Fibre from Vellore Institute of Technology, Chennai, a Master's degree in Apparel Design from the National Institute of Design (NID), Gandhinagar, and a B.Tech. in Fashion Technology (Textile Technology) from Kumaraguru College of Technology, Coimbatore. Before joining academia, he worked with renowned luxury couture labels, including Shyamal & Bhumika and Manoviraj Khosla, served as Costume Design Lead for the Just Dance game franchise at Ubisoft Pune Studio, and trained with Allen Solly and Peter England.

His research focuses on sustainable textiles, natural fibres, handloom innovations, and contemporary product development using areca nut fibre. He collaborates closely with handloom clusters in Kannur and has published research in peer-reviewed journals while presenting his work at national and international conferences, promoting sustainable fashion, circular design, and indigenous textile development.

Beyond teaching and research, Dr. Georgy mentors student design projects and actively contributes to academic and institutional initiatives. He has delivered guest talks at institutions including IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Kozhikode, FDDI, Kerala State Institute of Design, and Amity School of Fashion Technology, Noida, to name a few. His interests include developing high-end couture collections, flower arrangement, farming, and tropical gardening.
