Ms. Sangita Das Chowdhury is an Assistant Professor in the Knitwear Design Department at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Mumbai. With over six years of teaching experience at NIFT, she has been actively involved in fashion education since joining the institute as an ad hoc faculty member in 2019 and becoming a permanent faculty member in 2022. Before her transfer to the Knitwear Design Department in 2025, she served in the Fashion Design Department, where she contributed extensively to academic delivery and curriculum development. Her teaching expertise spans Design Process, Fashion Basics, Fashion and Costume, Product Development, Fashion Portfolio Development, Intimate Apparel, Technical Specifications, and related design subjects. She also serves as the Foundation Programme Link Course Coordinator (since 2024) and is the Course Coordinator for "Creative Fashion Styling" under NIFT's Continuing Education Programme. Currently, she is pursuing her Ph.D. from Visva-Bharati University, further strengthening her academic and research pursuits.
• Ms. Das Chowdhury's research interests encompass a broad spectrum of areas within fashion and design, including fashion design methodology, consumer behavior, sustainable fashion practices, children's wear, intimate apparel, costume studies, fashion history, and product innovation. As a doctoral researcher, she is committed to advancing knowledge in fashion studies through interdisciplinary research and academic inquiry. She actively participates in academic discussions, conferences, and institutional initiatives that encourage innovation, design thinking, and industry-academia collaboration.
• Beyond academics, Ms. Das Chowdhury plays an active role in several institutional responsibilities that contribute to the holistic development of the institute. Since 2021, she has been a core member of the Public Relations and Media Team at NIFT Mumbai, where she has successfully coordinated media outreach, institutional branding, and publicity for major events, including international conferences, exhibitions, and academic initiatives. She also serves as the Cultural Advisor to the NIFT Mumbai Cultural Club, mentoring students in organizing cultural events and encouraging creativity, teamwork, and leadership beyond the classroom. Her interests extend to exploring India's rich textile and costume heritage, documenting fashion narratives, and promoting sustainable and socially responsible design practices through education and community engagement.
