Rashmi Gulati, Associate Professor at Department of Design Space with over 26 years of experience in design education, research and professional practice. She joined NIFT in October 1995. She teaches undergraduate and Post graduate courses and is the Chairperson of the Department of Design Space, leading the Master of Design programme at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT). She holds a PhD in Management, and her doctoral research developed a sustainable framework for the arts and crafts sector in Mumbai. Her area of expertise include craft studies, design research, design thinking, creative thinking, design management along with proficiency in digital graphics, personal branding, professional ethics, social design and interdisciplinary design education. She plays a key role in curriculum development, academic leadership and strengthening industry–academia collaborations.

Her research focuses on sustainable craft ecosystems, design education, innovation and strategic design. She has published research in reputed national and international journals, with contributions addressing craft management, sustainability, and design pedagogy.

She has made significant contributions to NIFT over nearly three decades, successfully managing diverse leadership roles. She has a strong track record of fostering industry connections, spearheading live-classroom initiatives and bridging the gap between academia and industry practices to enhance student learning and professional engagement.

Beyond academics, Rashmi mentors students, young researchers and design professionals, encouraging innovation, entrepreneurship and socially responsible design. Her interests include academic leadership, community engagement, creative problem-solving and promoting design as a catalyst for sustainable development and positive social impact.
