Mitali Kapoor is an Assistant Professor in the Fashion Design Department at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Hyderabad. She holds a Master’s degree in Apparel Design from the National Institute of Design (NID) and graduated in Fashion Design from NIFT Hyderabad. Her professional experience spans export houses, design houses, retail and e-commerce brands, and academia, where she has worked as a designer, leader, educator, and design professional. Her areas of expertise include design process, design thinking, draping, print development, conceptual illustration, trend forecasting, interdisciplinary design, experiential design, and sustainable fashion.

Her research interests focus on sustainable design, circularity, user-centric research, human behaviour, social innovation, and emerging approaches to fashion education. She explores the intersection of design, psychology, sustainability, and technology to develop relevant and responsible design solutions. Her academic practice includes experiential learning, interdisciplinary projects, material exploration, and design interventions that connect conceptual understanding with practical application. She has contributed to craft-based initiatives involving Kalamkari of Srikalahasti, Sujini of Bihar, and Jute craft of Jharkhand, supporting craft promotion and design development.

As an educator, Mitali is committed to mentoring young designers and fostering collaboration, critical thinking, experimentation, and effective communication. She actively engages in academic coordination, workshops, expert sessions, field-based learning, and student-centred initiatives. She believes that foundational understanding, curiosity, empathy, and collaborative practice enable students to develop meaningful and innovative design solutions.
