Dr. Sabyasachi Sengupta is an Associate Professor and an alumnus (M. F.Tech.) of NIFT, Kolkata, and Visva Bharati, (Ph.D.). He is the recipient of National Scholarship and the current Chairperson of Leather Design Department. He has worked in the apparel industry, and associated with academics for over twenty-five years teaching in Design Disciplines - Apparel Design Studio, Ergonomics, Luxury Theory; Craft Practices, and Culture. He is particularly interested in Apparels; Fashion language and systems; Luxury Theory, and Ergonomics.

Dr. Sengupta has published national/international papers on Semiotics-Linguistics, Fashion reading; Textile Semantics; Tagorian studies in Texts-Textiles-Textuality; Relocating Textiles’ evolutionary and socio-cultural anecdotes (India in general and Bengal in particular) through cross-disciplinary approaches; Textiles and empiricism; Textiles’ Phenomenology and Historicality. He illustrates (hand-drawn and simulated) NIFT promotions (visual space). Edits, and writes for the young minds engaging them to appreciate Textiles reading.
