Aritra Roy Chowdhury is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Fashion and Lifestyle Accessories at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Kolkata. He has over eight years of academic and professional experience in product design, lifestyle accessories, and design education. He graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ceramic and Glass Design from Kala Bhavana, Visva-Bharati, and earned a Master of Design in Industrial Design from the National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad. He is currently pursuing his PhD at Visva-Bharati, focusing on craft-based design research. His expertise includes product design, craft documentation and design, ceramic and glass design, and product sketching and rendering.

His research interests encompass traditional crafts, ceramic and glass flame-work, design intervention, product diversification, sustainability, and artisan livelihood development. He has published two research papers, two book chapters, and presented two conference papers. He received the National Scholarship from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India(2016), and the KSDT Korean Society of Design Trend Award(2014) for academic excellence and design innovation.

He previously served as the Student Development Activity Coordinator(2023 to 2026) and currently the course coordinator(2026) of Fashion and Lifestyle Accesory Design Department of Kolkata Campus and other academic responsibilities. He actively collaborates with artisan communities and promotes craft-based innovation through design education and research.
