About

Dr. Abhijit Mukherjee is an Associate Professor in the Department of Fashion Technology at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Kolkata. He has over 25 years of professional experience spanning academia, research, industry, and academic administration. His expertise encompasses technical textiles, smart textiles, sustainable manufacturing, textile processing, apparel quality management, textile testing, fibre science, and technology-driven product development.
His research focuses on sustainable textiles, technical and functional textiles, smart wearable systems, textile finishing, process optimization, and circular manufacturing. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters published by Springer Nature and other international publishers, and conference papers presented at leading national and international forums, including FILTECH 2026, Cologne, Germany. He serves as a reviewer and editorial board member for reputed journals.
Dr. Mukherjee actively mentors student innovation projects, supports technology-for-society initiatives, and promotes sustainable engineering practices through outreach programmes. He is a Fellow of The Institution of Engineers (India), a Chartered Engineer (India), and a Royal Fellow of the International Organisation for Academic and Scientific Development. He is an empanelled Ph.D. supervisor at NIFT. He received the Outstanding Academician Award from an international scientific forum in 2026. His professional interests include academic mentoring, interdisciplinary collaboration, curriculum development, and the advancement of textile technologies for societal benefit.
