Ms. Sugandha Suneja is an Assistant Professor and Centre Coordinator (CC) in the Department of Fashion Management Studies at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), New Delhi. Before transitioning to academia, she built her experience in the e-commerce and digital business domain, where she managed digital commerce initiatives for leading premium beauty and personal care brands, including Kama Ayurveda and the Amorepacific Group.

  • Craft-Based Design Project: Wooden Toys, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh

The tradition of wooden toy-making in Varanasi is an important part of the region’s rich craft heritage, showcasing generations of skilled craftsmanship and cultural storytelling. Created by artisan communities, these handcrafted toys are known for their vibrant colours, playful forms, and artistic appeal.

The two-year Master of Design (M.Des) programme, offered by the Department of Design Space, is specifically structured to address the complex, multidisciplinary nature of contemporary design. Rooted deeply in design thinking, rigorous research, and systematic innovation, the programme builds critical capabilities in sustainability, strategic design, and emerging technologies. It successfully prepares a new generation of designers, researchers, and strategists to navigate and innovate across diverse spatial, experiential, and systemic contexts.

The two-year Master of Fashion Management programme, offered by the Department of Fashion Management Studies, develops professionals for the business, management and strategic dimensions of the fashion industry. The curriculum integrates fashion marketing, merchandising, buying, retailing, sourcing, supply chain management, business analytics, brand and strategic management, global marketing, luxury fashion and entrepreneurship.

The two-year Master of Fashion Technology programme, offered by the Department of Fashion Technology, prepares professionals for advanced roles across fashion technology, apparel manufacturing, product development and supply chain management. The curriculum integrates engineering, technology, management, research and innovation, with emphasis on advanced textile materials, functional textiles, apparel quality engineering, product engineering and modern manufacturing systems.

The two-semester Foundation Programme forms the common starting point for undergraduate education at NIFT, bringing Design and Fashion Technology students together through a shared learning experience in Design and Technology fundamentals. The programme develops core skills in visualisation, communication, creative thinking, material exploration and digital tools, while introducing students to fashion, technology, sustainability and the wider design ecosystem.

The four-year Accessory Design programme, offered by the Department of Fashion & Lifestyle Accessory, develops designers for the diverse and evolving world of lifestyle products and fashion accessories. The curriculum integrates design thinking with traditional and new-age materials, emerging technologies, Indian crafts and sustainable practices.
