Ms. Meaidibahun Blah is an Assistant Professor in the Fashion Communication Department at NIFT Shillong, and additionally serves as the Coordinator of the Corporate Communication Cell for NIFT Shillong. Specialising in Fashion Design and Visual Communication, her expertise covers design development, pattern making, draping, creative art direction, branding, and graphic design. She played a foundational role at the institute, helping establish the Fashion Design department in 2008 and the Fashion Communication department in 2020.
Hailing from the popular hill-station of Darjeeling, Tshering Dolkar is an alumna of Accessory design department, NIFT, Delhi. Her industry experience includes working with leading design studios and export houses, with client designs showcased at Lakme Fashion Week and exhibitions in Singapore, Dubai and Uzbekistan. IN 2002 she joined the NIFT academic fraternity as an Assistant Professor in the Fashion & Lifestyle Accessory department.
Umme Hani is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Textile Design at the National Institute of Fashion Technology, Shillong, where she also serves as the Campus Coordinator for the Foundation Programme. She has expertise in textile design with an interdisciplinary perspective that integrates product and communication design. Along with teaching undergraduate courses in Textile Design, she also teaches Foundation Programme courses and actively contributes to curriculum development, academic administration, student mentoring, and institutional initiatives.
Ms. Anjumani Boro is an Assistant Professor of Textile Design with a specialisation in weaving prints and surface techniques and design. She joined the campus in 2022 and has been actively involved in teaching undergraduate courses focused on basic weave structures, Deepening specialisation in textile design in terms of prints, weave, and creative surface development. Her teaching approach combines technical knowledge with hands-on experimentation, students explore the artistic and functional possibilities of textiles. Before entering academia, Ms.
Sujit Kumar Mohanty is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Fashion Communication at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Shillong. He specialises in fashion communication, journalism, and media studies, with extensive academic and professional experience spanning higher education and the media industry. Before joining NIFT, he was a founding faculty in the department of Journalism and Mass Communication at the Central University of Odisha (A Central University, established by an Act of Parliament), where he taught postgraduate students for over 11 years.
Rajesh Kumar S is an Assistant Professor at NIFT Shillong, with over seven years of industry experience across the apparel export, retail, and sales sectors. His core expertise lies in Retail Analytics and Apparel Export Business, encompassing retail management, retail merchandising, product development, export merchandising, apparel costing, garment production, and retail operations. Prior to joining academia, he served as Manager – Product Development at Zivame, a leading women’s lingerie retail brand.
Aurineeta Das is an Associate Professor in the Department of Textile Design at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Shillong. Her expertise spans textile design, fashion styling, and craft studies, with a focus on integrating traditional knowledge with contemporary design practices. Through her teaching, she encourages critical thinking, creativity, and material exploration to prepare students for evolving design contexts. Her research interests include textile surface development, indigenous textiles, craft documentation, and sustainable design.
Mr. Ashish Kaithwas is an Assistant Professor at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) with over 19 years of combined academic and professional experience across education, Industry and entrepreneurship. He brings a multidisciplinary perspective shaped by his academic background in engineering and fashion technology along with professional experience in ERP projects and industrial operations. His entrepreneurial experience further broadens his exposure to diverse professional and business environments.

About the project

Beyul: A Legacy Carved in Wood presents a comprehensive exploration of Sikkim’s cultural landscape and the significance of wood carving as a living craft tradition. Set against the backdrop of the Eastern Himalayas, the documentation examines the state’s geography, history, architecture, languages, religions, and ethnic diversity, providing context for understanding the evolution of its craft heritage. A central theme of the study is the influence of Buddhism on Sikkim’s artistic traditions.
